Why study with us?

Our presence here was born from our dogs. We began as dog walkers so we experienced a wide spectrum of 'personalities and behaviours' across a wide range of dogs....young, old, small, large, hunters to couch companions.....we have worked with hundreds of dogs with a wide variety of abilities. It became apparent that, in order to  create a cohesive, integrated group which would change as time went by, accepting new dogs at a moments notice, we needed to create a structure and environment in which they could all feel relaxed, happy and confident, any time, all the time and anywhere.
We watched them intently, learned their almost invisible responses and we 'talked' with them. Our communication channel became fluent and their guardians were noticing. They began asking for assistance and, over time, we created Dog Zen.
The Dog Bond epitomises our belief that the relationship is the bedrock. We want you to learn HOW to build the best relationship for you and your dog and so The Dog Bond is here to support you on that journey,

We are.....

Han
Han's all about education via enjoyment and enrichment....she always looks at how she can enrich the educational experience for our dogs....which is why she's so good at it. Dogs love to learn and Han works out how to get the best from everyone.
Pat
Pat's really into energy...the vibration, frequency kind of energy.....and what a dog does with his/her energy....the 'invisible' responses. It's a form of communication that she uses every day. Just like another language!
We learn through play and energy exchange. You need to learn HOW your dog learns and your dog needs to learn HOW you operate. You both need to be aware of the potential outcomes of your actions.
Your dog needs to see you as the provider of consistently positive learning experiences.
Holding that postive state for your dog means your dog can relax and place his/her trust in your actions.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a better everyday 'dog life' for people and their dogs. We want to inspire you, make you smile and feel good about The Dog Bond in your life!
We share our passion for sharing knowledge with students from all walks of life. All our courses are planned, recorded and created based on 3 core principles:
  • We provide you with the deep detail you need to make the difference you want.
  • We share with you what we have found really matters....to dogs, not people.
  • All our lessons are created from real life, everyday situations.
Building Bonds

Unlimited Bonds!

Each positive encounter experienced by you and your dog has the ability to expand your energetic connection, raise your vibration and nurture you future together.
We created Human Training for Dogs because the dogs we encountered could all do what we asked of them yet weren't doing 'it' for their guardians. Why was this?
After much thought and observation, we realised that people were approaching 'dog training' from a 'people centric' perspective. We approach our relationships with dogs in a 'dog centric' way and this is where the difference came into play.
So we set about creating a process which could bridge the divide, both ways. It had to be be clear and simple, straightforward and effective whilst fun and engaging, for both human and dog!
People tell us Dog Zen is all of those and dogs show us!

Frequently asked questions

If this is 'human training', will my dog actually be trained?

Yes. As we are showing you the steps and structures we use to work with dogs, you will be training your own dog as you both learn together.

I previously engaged a trainer and although my dog did everything with the trainer, she wouldn't do it with me. What's going to be different this time?

This is why we train people to work with their dogs. We can do 'stuff' with dogs that their people can't so we focus upon you in order to help you understand the entire process.

Why don't you just train the dog so they always do what they're asked?

Dogs are 'context specific' which means their responses are influenced by their environment plus, each dog is an individual. If you want the best for your dog, you'll want to understand 'how' they translate their world....rather than 'bark commands'.
The 'best trained' dogs all learned in an environment where their needs were understood and nurtured.

Can I fail this?

Success and/or failure will be driven by you. You can fail if you decide to give up. You can take these lessons as often as you want so you learn at your own pace. Learning how to work with dogs in a way that works for dogs does require a change in people.....usually for the better. People associate learning with 'education' and, for some, that equates to school, college or university. That's not how dogs learn so a 'different hat' is required. However, we talk about this.

How long does it take?

That will depend upon your input and the quality of the work you and your dog do together. This is about getting it right NOT getting it done in days. 'Zen' NOT when! We usually advise you work on each step for at least two weeks before moving to the next however, two weeks of once a week only means twice and that's not nearly enough. You are aiming to create consistency and that requires repetition.

Will I have support?

Yes, we will support you via e-mail about queries specific to the course. We are not discussing general, non course related topics
